Choosing a time attendance terminal
Face, fingerprint or card? Five questions to answer before you buy.
The right attendance terminal depends on your people, your site and how you process payroll.
1. How will people verify?
Face recognition is touch-free and quick. Fingerprint is familiar and cost-effective. Cards suit sites where biometrics are not wanted. Multi-biometric terminals support several methods.
2. How many users and records?
Check face, fingerprint and log capacity against your headcount and how often data is downloaded.
3. How will the terminal connect?
TCP/IP suits offices; Wi-Fi or mobile data helps on remote sites. Web-based software such as LanaTime can collect data from many sites.
4. Do you also need door access?
Some terminals include relays and Wiegand output so the same device can open a door.
5. What about power cuts?
Built-in batteries or a mini UPS keep terminals recording during short outages.
